Cultural Arts at LRES

Several times each year the LRES PTA’s Cultural Arts program brings artists and performers to LRES.  Performers have ranged from an award-winning singer/musician and world-champion jump rope teams, to children’s book authors.

The goal of Cultural Arts is to expose LRES children to many artistic disciplines including writing, music, singing, dance and storytelling. The hope is that doing so will enrich their educational experience and reinforce what they learn in the classroom.

The Cultural Arts program is organized and funded through donations to the LRES PTA, along with some additional funding from the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County.  LRES is a member of the United Arts Council and participates in the Artist In Schools Program, a partnership program of United Arts Council and WCPSS.

Thank you for your contributions to LRES.  Your generosity makes programs like these possible.

Bright Star performed their original play, “The Lady of Bullyburg,” an enchanting anti-bullying fairy tale that empowers young audiences with the tools they need to stop someone from bullying them.

From the Bright Star website:
“….this character education packed gem has been charming audiences for six years! In the format of a traditional fairy tale, this production tells the story of Lady Kindness and her journey through the town of Bullyburg.  In preparation of her own rise to the throne, Lady Kindness realizes that she must gather her strength to confront the town bully who has taken over a nearby village.  With the help of a local merchant and suggestions from the audience, she bravely sets off on her adventure. Our unique interactive approach will empower your students with the tools to help put an end to the epidemic of bullying, while recognizing the potential friendships that surround them.”
